About Our School
Charity United Methodist Church Preschool and Kindergarten opened its doors to the children and families of the community of Pungo in September of 1985. Our creative curriculum includes a wide variety of activities, including center time, group time, outdoor play activities, and art. Our themed units of study mirror the Virginia Foundation Blocks of Learning. We use the Heggerty Curriculum in all classrooms for phonemic awareness lessons. We use Little Minds at Work for our Pre-K and Kindergarten Literacy, Science of Reading, and Math lessons. Our 2's class uses STREAMin3 for our curriculum and our 3's are using Play To Learn Preschool.
We believe children learn best through play and experiences and are more apt to ask questions in an environment where they feel safe and nurtured. We offer chapel each month, and the teachers incorporate Biblical principles and read Bible stories as a part of the curriculum. We provide a wide variety of special guest visits such as the Fire Department and Butterfly Society, to give each child plenty of real-world experiences. We also present timely programs each year including our Fall Festival, our Christmas program, and our commencement exercises for our students graduating to kindergarten. Charity UMC Preschool and Kindergarten is a religiously exempt school operating under the guidelines set forth by VDOE.
Charity teachers use Conscious Discipline to give our preschool children the language to communicate their emotions and the tools to regulate them. Children learn to resolve conflicts, express their needs, and manage their emotions so they can thrive!
