Charity's Kindergarten Class
Our kindergarten class reflects the loving Christian environment of our school while also meeting our state Standards of Learning. We use the “Little Minds at Work” curriculum to ensure that our students excel in reading, math, social studies, and science. We focus on making the class developmentally appropriate through hands-on learning in small groups indoors and outdoors, with time each day for snacks, recess, and free play. Our 1:6 classroom ratio ensures that each child gets an individualized Kindergarten experience. Our teachers take time to get to know each student and how they learn, making sure they are successful in first grade and beyond. Progress reports and report cards are provided each quarter with assessments linked to the state standards. The kindergarten program runs from September through May, from 8:45-1:00, with aftercare available M-F until 5 pm at an additional cost.
The curriculum includes differentiated material for a wide range of students. It also includes intervention material to reach students at varying levels.
Our curriculum covers:
Bible - Our students learn about God's love by studying stories from the Old Testament and New Testament. Each lesson includes a learning objective and Bible verse to reinforce through the unit of study.
Math - Under the guidance of teachers, our students actively participate in teaching and learning mathematics through hands-on and captivating activities with their partners. Additionally, our math units embrace spiral learning, emphasizing the continuous review of previously taught skills rather than introducing a concept and moving on without ever revisiting it. Units include: Numbers to 100, sorting and classifying, Comparing numbers and sets, measurements, 2D and 3D shapes, addition and subtraction to 10, addition word problems, graphing, time to the hour, and money values.
Literacy- Our literacy program uses comprehensive instruction in whole-group reading, writing, and phonemic awareness. Each week, we delve into key elements such as the big idea, focus standard, essential questions, comprehension focus, story element focus, writing genre, phonemic awareness components, vocabulary, and various other aspects to ensure a well-rounded learning experience.

Each lesson incorporates built-in phonemic awareness and addresses phonics and reading.
